Rhys Tivey grew up on a small horse farm in rural upstate NY to visual artists Hap Tivey and Liza Tivey. As a teenage trumpeter, he played jazz and orchestral music, performing in Carnegie Hall, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic with Albany ESYO.
