Another Singer-Songwriter spouting forth about love, break-ups and heartache… Boring, right?
Wrong.
When it’s this good, and the infectious hook line of OOOH LALA is book-ended by a 60’s reminiscent guitar part that was discovered on YouTube and then remotely recorded, you just can’t help but hum the chorus from this hauntingly catchy tune for days afterwards.
The story draws you in, it’s descriptive, it sounds real and sexy and it sets the stage for the video, shot in Kreuzberg Berlin – the perfect place for the first single, taken from Matt Adey’s new album Love and Deeper Cuts.
Produced by Chris Potter, best known for his work with the Verve and Richard Ashcroft, and including Ashcroft’s band on the track, it’s no surprise that “Love Is Not a Game” is this phenomenal.
This is a great song and performance. The melody is strong and tuneful. The singer has an attractive vocal tone, and puts real feeling into the lyrics. The lyrics are interesting and meaningful with some punchy phrases. Instrumentally, the song has a rich, full accompaniment that complements the vocal track perfectly. Great guitar solo too, although I think a grittier tone would suit the dark mood of the song better.
