Interview: Sofi Bonde – Angels Above

“Angels Above” is about us all living under the same rules, the same sky. A good example is what’s going on right now with the Corona situation, nobody can fully protect oneself from that. We are all equally threatened under the law of nature, but together we have an enormous power in what we can achieve, that’s how we create magic.

Hey Sofi! Can you introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello there, I’m a Swedish singer/songwriter who started off in Paris, released my debut in Sweden. Moved to London to build on my craft, then to New York and LA in twelve years where I mostly wrote music for film and TV. Now back home in Stockholm and released the first single “Angels Above” with Universal from a long list of songs. Meaning many new songs to come!

Congratulations on your single, ‘Angels Above’, can you give us some insight into the inspiration behind it? 

It’s about us humans focusing on things and arguments that lead nowhere. Sometimes you need to break out of our own little world and ask for help. So here it’s really about the Angels Above, if they can show us some love. And mend us humans with it.

What was the recording process like? 

I recorded Angels Above in Stockholm with my co-producer Stefan Lebrot, who I also wrote the song with, and sent it off to Berlin where another Swedish producer Kim Wennerström, with whom I have worked with for about ten years ago, finished the production of the song and mixed it. Then the final version was sent off to Helsinki where a very talented woman, Minerva Pappi, mastered it.

Where you from and what’s the music scene like there? 

Sweden and I’d say what we do mostly is pop. ABBA is the source of everything up here!

If you could collaborate with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

I would love to work with one of the upcoming bond movies and write the theme song. It has always been a dream of mine.

Otherwise a major dream for me is to work with my idol, Jeff Lynne. He himself is so talented and he produced both Tom Petty and Roy Orbison who unfortunately are not with us anymore.

What’s coming up next for you?

I am on summer holiday right now and this fall we will release the next single. I’m so excited about that!
