Berlin based artist, actress, songwriter and singer NKLS had her first appearance on Andrew Applepie’s song „Names“ which she lent her voice to. For the turn of the year 2018/19„Catch It“ merged her beautiful idea of snowflakes, her ease and love with Andrew’s playful beatmaking.
Hi NKLS, how are you today?
good, thanks. woke up from a sweet voice today.
How would you describe your sound?
friendly, sweet, crisp, tasty
Which artists have influenced you the most over the years?
many, even some, whose music I wouldn’t choose to listen to. melodies I hear everywhere have influenced me, even lullabies. I love music that has a lot of feeling in it. but lately I am overwhelmed by the amount of music that exists, so I tend to listen to the birds sing.
How did your latest single, ‘Pool’, come about?
I was playing the Gitarre and singing random stuff. the first lines of the song with the ocean and pool just came out of my mouth, the chorus too. my baby son was in the room and making noises at the same time. his little voice is the loop in the beginning of the song. i spent a few hours with andy (Andrew Applepie) playing around and recording and he finished the song with his wonderful skills.
Are you planning to make it part of a larger release, such as an EP or album?
no. I like to drop one single after another.
The lockdown has affected everyone’s plans right now. What are you doing to stay productive throughout it and are you still able to work on new music?
it hasn’t affected me too much. it has made me enjoy the quiet more. I started to draw something everyday. something little, maybe only for 10mins. If nothing else goes, I did one creative thing, which gives me a good feeling. creating is life!
What advice would you give other artists who are trying to stay productive during this crisis?
take time to reflect, eat good food, hug someone you love if you can, even if only possible in your thoughts.
Anything you would like to add?
it is good and it is enough. thanks for the interview. 🙂
