HYE has been ”the guy in the back” in many projects over the last decade such as Jonathan Johansson’s – Lebensraum, Kaah’s – New Orleans and the full catalogue from his own band Immanu El. But with the release of Medicine, he now steps to the front and we see him as never before. HYE is creativity, full headlights, dancing bodies, love and anxiety.

Hi HYE, where are you based and how does this affect your writing?
Hi! My name is David and I live in Stockholm, Sweden. This is where I run my studio and do my creative work. Due to our seasonal climate in Sweden, I tend to be out and about five months a year or so during the summer months. When the darkness falls in the autumn I go into the studio and write.. All the way to May. I wake with the leaves on the trees. I believe that can be heard in the music.
What inspires you the most right now?
I saw the movie Parasite quite recently – Very inspiring!
When it comes to music I feel inspired by SiR, Prince, Fleetwood Mac, Little Dragon and Kaytranada amongst others right now.
Is there a story behind ‘Medicine’?
Yes. The song is about pills and the blissful state of numbness that might occur as a side effect to depression/anxiety medicine. The song portrays that moment when the effect kicks in and anxiety leaves your body. A feeling kind of like that first breath of air after breaching surface. Late in life I’ve had to grown accustomed to these attacks and I’m still trying to learn how to live with them..
How long have you been making music?
I’ve been making music as long as I can remember in different styles and projects but I’ve been working on HYE songs during the last 1,5 year or so. Since HYE is a solo project it’s all up to me to get things done which can be both great and frustrating. But it is really beautiful to now see the first song leave it’s nest and fly over the world!
If you could perform at any venue in the world, where would it be and why?
Any club with a low ceiling, blinding light and loud volume will do for me!
I wish to get emotionally touched when going to a concert and I find that easiest on a place like that.
What’s your plan for the rest of the year? Is there more music coming soon?
Yes! My self titled debut album is dropping in just a couple of weeks! I’m so excited to share it with you.
